What I did over the weekend..

First up i cant believe the weekend just FLEW by.. But it was quite good. I was driving around a lot tho, but it was good. Anyways, this weekend's post would constitute a LOT la - a general catching up weekend, Damian's wedding, RSPCA and the Cleo party. Anyways..

Caught up with a LOT of people and stuff. Friday morning I went to my old office to see my ex-colleagues cos my ex-boss was leaving the company. Got invited for lunch at SanFran's Steakhouse, but i just couldnt forget the nasi kandar i used to have so i dragged Angela out for that instead.

Stayed and said hi to everyone, and all the comments I got was along the lines of "oh my god you look so happy, oh my god you look so much prettier, oh my god you've lost weight". i mean, it was amazing, i was on a high that day. EVERYONE. Amazing. So yeah that was kinda an ego trip :-)

Then I went to PJ to have a late tea with Syaliza, and now we've made plans for next Friday to go to the museum and go catch a movie :-) Logistiscs all worked out too.. Sadly, she's the only one who says she like me better with my curly wurly wurly hair (in her words of course). I beg to differ :-P

After that, I went to my cousin's place for dinner and hung out there (surrounded by all the leftover diwali cookies - ahh bliss), and went home abt 10+ (too tired to partay, i'm getting old :p)

Saturday morn was Damian's wedding, and since I didnt know the way to the church, I met up with Kenny and his family and took it from there. The wedding itself was so beautiful, it was this typical simple church ceremony where the pastor gave some sermon and there were songs and prayers and an exchanging of vows and the bride walking in and being given away by her father and it was like all you see in the movies - it was so quaint i was almost tearing! And the whole thing was over in an hour!

Sorry, but i cant help comparing it with all the hindu weddings i go to la, where everyone is in their best sarees being weighed down by all the gold they own. I mean, i looked GORGEOUS wearing a black dress and fake pearls. and i probably reduced the chances of getting mugged by about a million percent maybe?

not to mention all the sweating that goes on while the pries chants around the fire and everyone is just perspiring through all their pores! and the priest doest just chant for a while either, my my that man can go ON. and then the bride has to go in and change sarees and come out again looking all dolled up. oh gosh! i hope i dont go through that. seeing that i bloody sweat like a pig! a nice simple garden wedding in the spring with close friends and family with a simple ceremony for exchanging vows for me, thank you very much!

Anyways, came back home, rested for a while and thought I'd go put my time to good use so i decided to go check out RSPCA. As i was parking my car i saw this mini lorry (much like the old newspaper guy) parked by the roadside near the big drain that runs beside the RSPCA. i didnt think much of it as i thought that he was just dropping off some old newspapers or something.

As i was walking towards the place after parking, a woman comes running out calling to the manbehind her "come quickly, i just saw the lorry throw a dog into the drain". and when i looked into the drain, sure enough there was a shihtzu in bad shape walking along the embankments.
A few minutes after i went in, they brought the shihtzu in who had clearly seen better days as her hair was all matted and her skin was horrible and she had lice on her ears etc. But to throw her into a drain? I mean, if you dont want a dog, just put it to sleep - why make it suffer?

I've always had this idea that if i had the power someday, i would find everyone who abuses animals and do the same bloody thing to them. Like if they are the ones that cut a fin off a shark and let it sink and die, i'd cut their hands off with a blunt knife without anaesthetic, and just leave them in shark infested waters off Africa. Or for those who skin dogs and cats alive, to do the same to them. Or for those who slice the top of a monkeys brain while its still alive, to do the same to THEM. fucking assholes. i actually echo the sentiment of one of the volunteers who was there when the dog was brought in - god will definitely punish them for this.

i mean, i know god is someone who is all forgiving and stuff, but certain things just beg for justice not mercy.

Jeez, i just got myself all worked up :p
Calm down calm down..

ANyways, to go on.. i got home after messing around with some of the animals and deicded to get changed for the Cleo party at the pavilion. Didnt wear anything fancy, just a white skirt with a pink turtleneck top and my funky pink wedges. accessories - pink watch, white handbag, pink earrings. yeah it was like looking at enlarged candy floss :p

anyways, halfway down the red carpet to where the queue was, guess what happens? My wedges break. like the heel gets disconnected from the shoe!! can you believe the bad timing? so i go to the concierge and ask if there is a cobbler around and it turns out Mr Minute is located at the basement. So i get my shoes done (costs me 15 vs the 5 i would hv paid anywhere else - i'm probably covering that guys operating costs as well :p) and join the queue after getting a bag of half a dozen J&Cos.

anyways, i did kinda anticiapte that this years goodie bag wouldnt be as good as some of the previous years (i've been religiously going for cleo's birthday bashes as i love their goodie bags) and leafing thru this month, i realised that there were only 2 main sponsors - clairol and maybelline. anyways, just decided to have a lil fun - so there were 5 of us - my sis, her fren, her fren's fren, her fren's fren's fren (kidding), my super hip aunt and me.

we waited inline just chatting etc, til the que started to move, and as it was our turn, we just took the bags and came off. we didnt bother checking what was inside and we were just standing around, while waiting, i decided to take a peek and everyone else did the same. and thats when i realised that i had the unlucky bag WITHOUT the maybelline lip gloss! i mean, that sucks!

so i decided to go back and tell the girl who was giving out the bags that mine didnt have the lip gloss, and when i do that, she tells me that not all bags have the same items and that i cant change bags. and when i tell her its the maybelline product which is missing (seeing that its one their 2 main sponsors), she still says that not all bags hv the same items! Then my aunt says why not try another usherer with a more pleasant face who was more towards being in charge of the guest list, and she changed the bag for us! and guess what? there was a lip gloss inside.

so then, after collecting the bags, we went to Dome and i had my fave choc a bloc espreski and sat down watching the crowd. it was a bit unfair tho cos in prev years, everything was pretty fair, like the celebs or invitees were mingling around guests etc. however, this time around, us normal people felt so left out cos all the guests were mingling inside the red carpet area where there were chairs arranged and waiters serving wine and h'ors d'ouevres (did i get the spelling right?) while we poor souls were just drooling. as a consolation i mustered up enuff guts to go up to daphne iking and ask if i could have a pic taken with her and she obliged :-) but trust, ANYONE will look fat beside daphne :p

oh well, it was ok overall and i plan on getting myself on the guestlist next year :-) as a freelance writer ;-)
