Sita’s wedding..

Well I didn’t go although I really really wanted to. But anyway, Aneta sent me a load of photos and the first thing that struck me was that all the ladies (read: aunties) milling around were all bustling and looking important and there were some tying her saree (like she couldn’t tie it herself!) and there were another 2 fixing her earrings and doing her hair and all la, well the whole works.

And I’m thinking to myself, in fact it was almost written on these aunties’ faces that they were trying to have some measure of control over someone else just because they didn’t have that at their wedding, and now since they are married and their lives have settled into a pattern, its like welcoming another person into the dreary “typicalmarriagekidscookingcleaning” lifestyle. I don’t know but this weird image about crabs trying to climb out of a wicker basket comes to mind, where when one starts climbing, all the rest pull him down.

Hmmmmmmmm…

Well, at the end of the day, its how happy you are and I wish her all the best and wish I had been there to see her on her big day..

So..

Well, haven’t been blogging so much now cos am trying to finish Harry Potter’s books quickly. And while I’m thinking abt this, I’m also thinking abt my final module in CPH and the fact tht I haven’t studied (I have 4 final papers), haven’t bought all the stuff for my team building (in the Danish wilderness, no less), in fact, haven’t done anything. Havent even started collecting past year papers at least. Shit, I’m in deep shit.

But I’m looking forward to AFTER the final module cos there’s an “afterparty” as thts where most of us will be last seeing each other. Can be pretty nostalgic.. and then I’m pn vacation for 2 wks – London in the summer (clarks, marks & spencers, the beach, chocolate trifle, les mis, etc), Belgium (chocs chocs and more chocs) and Amsterdam (tulips, windmills and drugs).. man, there’s something to look forward to. Cool ;-)

And everything’s gonna happen in a month, shit I’m screwed..

On another note, totally unrelated to the above, I was extremely disappointed. Cant say why tho, but it did drive home some points which I’ve been blind to for soooo long. Well, mayb not blind to, but more like in denial of. And an eye-opener is good.. But knowing me full well (I hope), I’m probably gonna go this cycle all over again..

P/S: Wild Hogs was very good and Jangan Pandang belakang was just ok as opposed to all the hype surrounding it..

Stop talking dammit!

What do you do with someone who just cant stop talking? Not just talking but arguing even? Its so annoying when someone argues but doesn’t give you a chance to put your points on the table. I mean, yeah, I hear you, now let me speak. And even then, they say ok, but they continue talking – why do you love the sound of your own voice so much?

But I think only a coward does tht – I don’t know, correct me if I’m wrong (all you argumentative cowards) – but I think the reason people don’t give other people a chance to speak is cos they know tht they stand to “lose” the battle, simply becos they realize tht their arguments don’t bloody hold water. Or any liquid for tht matter.. Hmmmpphhh..

Say you're in a court of law, both sides are given an opportunity to present their case, and the prosecutor or the defendant cant interrupt each other. and THEN, the judge decides. if the judge cant hear another side of the story simply becos the defendant was butchered, in whose favor is he supposed to rule, you DUMB ASS?

I'm just sooooo mad..

Like when ur talking, there’s always 2 sides to a story, I cant help it if you’re not satisfied with the outcome, but don’t la argue just cos you tak puas right? Until people get fed-up with you and they just give in for the sake of giving in. and you don’t even have a point. Ugh..

I might as well get this out of my system – “the world is like a fruitcake, it wouldn’t be complete without a few NUTS in it”..

Marina Mahathir's Musings

Today she writes abt feminism, page 46 of The Star. and i agree quite a bit. there are a few choice phrases:

* if your doctor is a woman, thank a feminist
* if you can hv birth control prescribed to you without first obtaining your husband's permission, thank a feminist
* if you expect to be considered for university admission based on your results and not your gender, thank a feminist
* if you can drive, thank a feminist

there are so many more, but these are the ones that struck a chord. i once read a book written by an american who's husband was from Iran, more like an autobiography, where she was having an IUD when she went to Iran, and when things went wrong and she could be caught for practising birth control, she removed the IUD herself! and everyone is subject to paternal laws NO MATTER WHAT. utterly ridiculous! and yet this still happens.

i mean, i dont consider myself a feminist per se, but i think that women have more to offer than babies and its up to us to prove that. chivalry is great if you ask me (i love doors being opened for me and when he takes off my coat and pulls out my chair etc) but so is fairplay.. like if your bf wants you to cook, fine (i mean, i cant cook to save my life), but then who washes up? good question eh? but dont take it to an extreme where even if he's sick in bed, you demand tht he washes up la. that would be just plain stupid. unless you're trying to dump him that is.. heheheheheh. pure evil. so sue me ;-)

and since we are on this topic, this months's cleo has an article abt the best cars for women. and guess what? more than half, in fact i think 8 out of the 10 cars are "short cars" know what i mean? like they have no boot space. geddit? like the myvi and kancil and hyundai getz and suzuki swift and savvy and kia picanto and all those small kinda cars. i mean - WHY????

and why do more and more women keep buying those cars? what are they trying to prove? what - its like women cant handle big cars? they cant park (let alone reverse park) to save their lives? i reverse park better than dadddeeeee and i LOVE big cars, gimme a camry or a cefiro anyday. and i LUUURRRVVVVEEE driving my cousin's Hilux. and i love the rexton cos it makes you feel like you are driving a machine (well, technically you are), but its like you can run people off the road.. heheheh.. oops, shouldnt have said that.. ;-)

but seriously - why do women get stuck with small cars? some work for the feminists eh? well, actually come to think of it, even i am guilty of condemning women. especially in driving. and they seriously cant drive (well so cant some men) - its like its psychological - people condemn your driving and you actually start believing that your driving sucks.

and since we are on the topic of men, i even enjoy the company of men better than women. well not all women la (tres, you are still loved. and roslin, amanda and ling - we should do tgif again sometime. and all the women whom i spend some time with but forget to mention), but quite a lot. men are so laid back and open minded and they can talk without being sensitive (works both ways - you say something totally out of line and they're are ok with it - do tht to a girlfren and you'll hv to deal with some sniffling and backstabbing; but guys are also less sensitive to your feelings when they say something, its a guy thing, and its up to you to just shake it off your back cos you know they dont mean it).

well, the power of society i guess, just adds pressure to women and only a strong woman can ignore it. like if you're 40 and not married and everyone thinks there's something wrong. WHY? and if you bark a little at some doofus who screwed up at work, the first thing they say is "oh, she's not married and not getting any". welllll, what makes you think not married = not getting any? especially in this day and age?

which leads me to another subject - why does almost everyone "fall in love" between 16 - 28? true love can be found at any age. the reason is tht its the most CONVENIENT age to fall in love, get married, buy a house and have kids. in that order. so if your priorities are different (like yours truly), age is just a number.

well, i'm rambling (again) and i wanna go tapau maggi goreng for dinner so i'll leave with this quote i found in my notebook today: "live with no excuses and love with no regrets", and kudos to all those who are doing that right now ;-)

Marmite chicken..

..Just weird. not to say its not nice. or nice. its just tasted odd. oh well, go try it.

About AI and PB. Stands for American Idol and Prison Break. I totally dont agree with the results for AI - i mean how can gina go home? whats wrong with the voters? you think nice legs are better than a good voice? well, maybe i suppose, but this is a singing contest. and dont even get me started on sanjaya! i think haley should have gone a long time ago. and phil for that matter. and stephanie should have stayed. and the first guy - what was his name again? bryan? i think. oh well, i cant help it if voters get their votes wrong..

as for PB, i love this show, its on my current top 5 list of must watch programmes. but i CANNOT wait for each episode one week later. so if anyone knows if the season is over in the US and if we can get a good copy of the dvd here for cheap, lemme know asap.

oh, and this ashesandsnow exhibition. check it out online at .org. interesting photos but totally un-freaking-believable! i mean, they are all wild animals and to get a shot like that would require their cooperation and the greatest coordination on earth..

anyways..

Tres, feel like attaching tht 5 page email i sent you but probably not the best idea hmmmmm?

Well, am so looking forward to my holidays ;-) Now THAT would be amazing. i hope.

You have a problem with the lemon?

Absolutely hilarious Amanda ;-) and the fact that Ling kept repeating it. my goodness, that was a fun group and a fun four hours. i would consider time well spent. absolutely freaking hilarious. thks guys, love you all ;-)

i mean, he would hv been traumatised for life, he's probably younger than Ling anyway, know what i mean. IF he knows lemons that is.. *wink wink* but hilarious..

and the one where Ling asked me something (cant rmbr what) but before i could answer, Roslin goes like "come on, dont you know the only part of her which is indian is her skin?" that was interesting. i mean i always knew it myself, but didnt think it was that obvious to the outside world as well. like when i speak on the phone and everyone thinks i'm chinese. or malay. never indian. hmmmmmm.. born in the wrong country i suppose. like how i used to eat cereal and milk for lunch cos that was the time europe was having breakfast... hahahahahahahaha..

so went to the zoo to volunteer on Saturday, nice. well, depends how you look at it of course ;-) cos it included raking leaves at the chimpanzee and orang utan enclosure amid "katak puru" and mosquitoes. but after that, got to play with 2 of the orang utans, cute cuddly creatures. adorable. and got to take pictures with another orang utan, even carried it and kissed it. Mmmmmmmmmm ;-) Better than babies anyday ;-)

One thing tht was disturbing tho was tht there was a panther in one of the back cages (if you werent part of the zoo, you'd NEVER know). and it was a freaking TINY cage and a full grown panther is in it. and the best part? ITS BEEN THERE FOR 20 YEARS! Serious shit.

so we asked the keeper whats wrong with it etc. and he says that it was caught in the wild and it never got along with the existing pair in the display enclosure where the surroundings are SOMEWHAT like nature la. But this cage was barely like 2 metres by 1 metre I AM NOT KIDDING! and 20 freaking yrs! thats like a bloody prison sentence. at least they have a possibility of parole. i mean 20 yrs?

and i wanted to write in the papers regarding this and i realised that i couldnt without jeopardising my job cos the zoo people would realise tht maersk is only group of volunteers who actively asked abt the panther. i mean 20 yrs? come on...

cos the papers is a pretty effective medium, hv done it before..

and when we asked the curator during the briefing session what went wrong, he just sidestepped the issue. its interesting. so a few of us stayed back after the talk and asked him about it and he kept saying they were trying to find a mate for the panther and they had no money to make an enclosure for him alone. for 20 years? hmmmmmm, wonder what car you're driving?

so i asked him where he actually got the funds to run the zoo from and he gave this lame thing about getting funds from the public entrance fees and also corporate contributions. i mean, COME ON! you think charging 2 bucks per person to enter the zoo would cover an elephants bananas? ok that came out the wrong way but you get my drift. and he keeps pointing out the fact that the zoo wasnt included in the 10th malaysian plan or something. so we thought mayb we could write a proposal to get CSR to cover the cost of a place for the panther. anyways..

was talking to someone who was in another part of the zoo and this person said that the zoo actually got 7 million bucks a year towards the upkeep of the animals etc. which makes more sense. and its a reliable source.. so who the hell do i believe? this is crazy. who's taking the dough? i mean politics when you're supposed to take care of the animals and you take advantage just cos they cant talk and cant complain. i wish you burn in hell.

so what do you do when you in this situation? when saying something could be detrimental for you and not saying something could be detrimental for another? especially when these others dont have voices? Fuck. well, if anyone reading this has some ideas or has been in this situation before, lemme know please. and i know a lot of you say tht it wont make a difference, tht shit happens and life goes on, i could try to make a difference in that panther's existence (if it can be called an existence).

Hmmmmmmmmmmm... Exhale...........

So went out for tea with a dear person, miss you sooooo much. you know you dont realise you miss the person when you dont see them so often anymore but it all comes back suddenly when you meet them after a long time.. ;-) Te amo..

Got my first police summons yesterday. was a bit taken aback cos i always told myself i'd stop speding when i got my first ticket. and the worst part? i was doing 121 in a 110 zone. if i were caught for 140 or 150, then fair la know, but 121? i mean.. aaarrrrggghhhhhh!! so there goes my money. thought i could save for europe in the summer but there goes. have to go begging la..

was really trying to keep to the 110 limit today and the bloody drive took longer than usual. how la? Gorgeous is just sooo used to 140. its automatic. before you know it, the meters climbed up. and its a bloody pain to try to bring it down again. ned to find that thing which kinda blocks the reading, hehehehe.. trust a master mind. i mean, rules are meant to be broken right? ;-P

Tres, am supposed to send you an email but damn malas to write it now.. thats why was supposed to meet you on Tues, these things DO NOT sound the same on paper..

Dont know if i wanna go for F1 or not, damn malas, but already got the ticket. the only thing bugging me is that the weather is uncertain, your ears go deaf and you cant see the cars anyway. so totally pointless right? wonder why i bought the ticket anyway. daft!

Have been learning a lot abt being a virgo recently, interesting but still cant fathom out how the world's 500 million virgos think the same way (Earth's population = 6 bil / 12 zodiac signs)..

oh i'm losing it, i need my sleep. bye. love you all. well, not all, but you know who you are ;-)

10 hours II

Where i got 10 hours of sleep instead of spending it in the bloody office! Felt so refreshed ;-) Should do that again today ;-)
